Look Good Feel Better®

On June 11th, 2012, I attended a workshop to be certified as a volunteer for Look Good Feel Better®, a public service program for cancer patients.  My friend Toni referred me.  Toni is a brilliant, woman, who exudes life and who knows me first and her friend and second as her makeup artist.  In addition to being brilliant, vivacious and my friend, she is also a scientist at NIH and she is a breast cancer survivor.

My 91 year old mom was a great human being, who taught me everything that I know about caring for others.  She was also a breast cancer survivor.  After her diagnosis, she had hoped to move to heaven before any intervention was necessary.   Cancer is not a  respecter of our old age or of our wishes. When it erupted through her skin, in September of 2012, and she had no choice, but to have a mastectomy, which she survived by the grace of God and the skill of her surgeon, Dr. Cynthia Drogula at the Aiello Breast Center in Anne Arundel County, MD.  Mom ultimately lost her life, on March 7th, 2013, due to complications resulting from brain injuries, incurred from a traumatic fall, one month prior.

I am looking forward to using the knowledge that I gained during the Look Good Feel Better® course to help cancer patients learn to cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment, and to help them regain their sense of confidence and self esteem.  I truly look forward to making a difference in the lives of these women who are surviving this merciless disease.
